Lampsig maintains a persistent chat channel on irc.freenode.net, which has established itself as the hub of the open source community. Use any irc client to connect to irc.us.freenode.net and issue a:
/join #lampsig.

irc.freenode.net supports nickserve which allows you to register a nickname. If you need help getting setup drop a line on the general maillist or ask for help in the irc channel.
