Who is LAMPsig?
The Los Angeles LAMP Special Interest Group (LAMPsig) is an off-shoot of the Linux Users of Los Angeles (LULA) group. LAMPsig is focused on web development and end user web interfaces. The LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) is the SIG's starting point.
The concept of an open source web development and web hosting platform matters much more than the acronym chosen to represent it. The open source nature of the platform is its greatest strength. So any alternative open source components will work just as well (e.g. FreeBSD AOLServer PostgreSQL Perl).
When does LAMPsig meet?
Every 3th Saturday of the Month at the Tom Bradley Center, 5213 West Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90019. Parking and driving directions can be found here.
Can I post job positions to the mailing list?
Yes, as long as the following good sense guidelines are followed.- That posts be limited in number so as to not overwhelm regular list traffic. Should job posts interfere with regular list communication a separate mailing list for job postings only will probably be created.
- That job posts be specific to the LAMPsig user base, i.e., LAMP and/or other web technology or development positions, and not general Linux or systems admin postings.
- That job postings include [JOB] in the subject line to help members filter incoming list mail.
- That the majority of positions posted be located within the SoCal area.
- That positions posted be for REAL jobs, and not used as a resume gathering exercise. The expectation is that a real job would have adequate details on job requirements or responsibilities, salary details, employment agency affiliation if any, whether it is a permanent or contract position, and clear and accurate contact information.
